Most series of patients with malignancies arising in the ethmoid sinuses demonstrate a preponderance of squamous cell carcinoma SCCA. Other contraindications include patients who refuse surgery or patients who are poor surgical candidates due to comorbidities. The series included 15 malignant tumors of the nose and paranasal sinuses and 3 extensive benign lesions. Etiology Several reports have associated malignant tumors of the paranasal sinuses with exposure to industrial fumes, mining industry pollutants, and wood dust. One patient with liver cirrhosis died from unexpected varix bleeding after the operation. Presentation In general, the most common symptoms and signs produced by tumors arising in the sinonasal tract are similar to the symptoms produced by inflammatory disease ie, chronic sinusitis. Their foramina can be identified close to the level of the frontoethmoidal suture, which therefore constitutes a reliable surgical landmark.
Craniofacial Resection for Cranial Base Malignancies Involving the Infratemporal Fossa
Malignant tumors of the skull base. Support Center Support Center. Eighteen patients underwent subcranial craniofacial resection over a seven-year period, this being combined with a second adjunctive procedure in 89 per cent of cases. Find articles by Shin Jung. This study presents a series of 18 patients with anterior skull base tumors, treated by a team of head-neck surgeons and neurosurgeons. Class 2 tumors extended to include the anterior cranial base, and Class 3 tumors involved the infratemporal fossa, anterior cranial base, and orbit Table 2.

We reviewed our experience with craniofacial resection for advanced, nonmelanoma skin cancer of the head and neck to determine prognostic factors, local control rate, disease free survival, morbidity, and mortality. It communicates with the exterior through an anterior opening, the nares, ie, nostrils. B, extended frontotemporal bone plate along the dotted lines. Orbital findings, such as deficits of extraocular muscle movements, chemosis, or proptosis, should alert the physician to the possibility of a neoplasm. No patient developed regional failure. Contrast-enhanced MR imaging indicating the extent of the tumor into the nasal cavity and ethmoid sinus along with intracranial intradural tumor spread and erosion of the medial wall of the orbit. Two patients had prior free flaps, and one developed a cutaneous fistula requiring subsequent free flap closure.
Prognostic factors and outcome in craniofacial surgery for malignant cutaneous tumors involving the anterior skull base. Magnetic resonance imaging scan coronal section showing an adenocarcinoma extending from the infratemporal fossa and maxillary sinus to involve the ethmoid sinuses and anterior cranial base. Temporalis muscle flaps were used in two patients; one patient underwent a limited Type 1 dissection, and the other had a medical contraindication to a free flap. The supraorbital neurovascular bundle supplies sensory and vascular supply and drainage to the frontal sinuses. Crista galli to the sella turcica. Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg ;
