OVERVIEW: At 0700H UTC+7 today, PAGASA elevated INVEST 92W into Tropical Depression ENTENG”. At 1600H UTC+7, the centre of Tropical Depression ENTENG was estimated based on all available data at 100 km Northeast of Catarman, Northern Samar or 115 km East Southeast of Virac, Catanduanes.
MOVEMENT & INTENSITY: According to PAGASA’s Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 3, 1 September at 1700H UTC+7: Maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the centre, gustiness of up to 70 km/h, and central pressure of 1000 hPa, moving northwestward at 15km/h.
FORECAST:
According to Philippines’ PAGASA Tropical Cyclone Bulletin 3:
- TRACK – TC ENTENG is forecast to move generally northwestward until tomorrow (2 Sept) early morning and may make landfall in the vicinity of Catanduanes or Albay in the next 12 hours. For the remainder of tomorrow, ENTENG will turn more north northwestward or northward after emerging over the waters north of Camarines Provinces and move over the waters east of Luzon. From Tuesday (3 Sept) to Wednesday (4 Sept), ENTENG is forecast to turn northwestward initially, then westward while decelerating over the Luzon Strait. Another landfall in the vicinity of mainland Northern Luzon or Babuyan Islands is not ruled out. A more northwestward movement is expected by Thursday (5 Sept) onwards.
- INTENSITY – TC ENTENG is forecast to reach tropical storm category within the next 12 hours. It is forecast to remain at this category until early Wednesday. It may also reach a peak category of typhoon by Thursday (5 Sept) or Friday (6 Sept).
HAZARDS:
TROPICAL CYCLONE ENTENG
- TCWS : Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal 1 (Warning lead time: 36 hrs; range of wind speeds: 39 to 61 km/h (Beaufort 6 to 7) is raised over the following areas:
- Luzon: The southeastern portion of Cagayan, the eastern portion of Isabela, the southern portion of Quirino, the northern portion of Aurora, Polillo Islands, the southern portion of mainland Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands.
- Visayas: Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, Biliran, and the northeastern portion of Leyte
- Heavy Rainfall – According to PAGASA, moderate to intense rainfall are expected in the following areas over the next days:
- Today until tomorrow afternoon (2 Sept): 100-200 mm in Polillo Islands, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Masbate, Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, and Samar; 50-100 mm in Metro Manila, the rest of CALABARZON, Marinduque, Romblon, Eastern Samar, Biliran, and the northern portion of Leyte
- Tomorrow until Tuesday afternoon (3 Sept): 100-200 mm: Isabela, Cagayan, Abra, Ilocos Norte; 50-100mm in Aurora and the rest of Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and mainland Cagayan Valley
- Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday afternoon (4 Sept): 100-200 mm in Babuyan Islands, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, and the northern portion of Ilocos Sur; 50-100 mm in Batanes, mainland Cagayan, and the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region and Ilocos Region
- Severe Winds – Minimal to minor impacts from strong winds are possible within any of the areas under TCWS Signal No. 1.
ENHANCED SOUTHWEST MONSOON
- Heavy Rainfall – According to PAGASA, moderate to intense rainfall are expected in the following areas over the next 3 days:
- 1 Sept: 100-200 mm Occidental Mindoro, northern Palawan including Calamian, Cuyo, and Cagayancillo Islands, Antique, and Negros Occidental; 50-100 mm are possible over Oriental Mindoro, Central Visayas, and the rest of Palawan, Western Visayas, and Negros Island
- 2 Sept: 100-200 mm: Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, northern Palawan including Calamian, Cuyo, and Cagayancillo Islands, Antique, and Negros Occidental; 50-100 mm in Zambales, Bataan, and the rest of MIMAROPA and Western Visayas
- 3 Sept: 100-200 mm in Zambales and Bataan; 50-100 mm in Benguet, La Union, Pangasinan, Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and the northern portion of Palawan
- Severe Winds – According to PAGASA, the enhanced Southwest Monsoon will also bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds):
- Today until tomorrow afternoon (2 Sept): MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Negros Island Region, Eastern Visayas (outside Wind Signal areas), Caraga Region, Northern Mindanao, and Zamboanga Peninsula
- Tomorrow until Tuesday afternoon (3 Sept): Zambales, Bataan, Aurora, Bulacan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Visayas, and Caraga Region
- Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday afternoon (4 Sept): Zambales, Bataan, Aurora, Bulacan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, and Western Visayas.
PREPAREDNESS & RESPONSE:
- Following the intensification of 92W into Tropical Cyclone ENTENG, PAGASA conducted regular press briefings and issuance of Tropical Cyclone Bulletins.
- PAGASA closely monitors and regularly issues advisories on the developing weather conditions and disturbances.
- NDRRMC, regional and local authorities are closely monitoring PAGASA advisories and closely coordinates with related agencies to ensure the safety of the affected and at risk communities.
- Local authorities closely coordinates with PAGASA to provide regular localised weather updates and early warning information to the public.
- PAGASA advises the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned to take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Persons living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials.
